In today’s world knowledge is power. Too many people get all of what they think they need to know by watching the TV news, listening to the radio or reading the newspapers. The TV, radio and newspapers slant what they want you to know by what the editor and/or owners believe in. This way they can slant the American public opinion the way they want. You remember, the pen is mightier than the sword?
I say, the known truth is mightier than the press!
Unfortunately, the U. S. Supreme Court is also slanted to the left or the right by which United States President appoints the most justices. These justices say they interpret the Constitution. But do they really? Do they really listen to what our founding fathers had to say and meant?
This is just to give you some straight forward information about what our fore fathers had in mind when they were starting our country.
I am NOT going to attempt to decipher what the writers’ of the Constitution meant. I am going to give you factual quotes of what our founding fathers actually said and believed.
If you do not believe that they said what I quote below, copy the quote to a Google search and see for yourself.
“Amendment 2 – Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government” — Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
“Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who did not”. Thomas Jefferson
“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good” — George Washington
“A free people ought to be armed.”
– George Washington
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”
– George Washington
“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”
– George Washington
“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.” — Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-188
“The great object is, that every man be armed. […] Every one who is able may have a gun.” — Patrick Henry, speech of June 14, 1788
“That the said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United states who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms…” — Samuel Adams, in “Phila. Independent Gazetteer”, August 20, 1789
“… arms … discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property…. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived the use of them.”
– Thomas Paine
“To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them.”
– George Mason
“I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few politicians.”
– George Mason (father of the Bill of Rights and The Virginia Declaration of Rights)
“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms.”
– James Madison
“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”
– Richard Henry Lee
Now you know what our founding fathers meant when they said, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
They meant EXACTLY that!
Don’t let the politicians, the news media or the U. S. Supreme Court tell you anything different, or what you should believe.
And then there are some other famous quotes by so infamous leaders!
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so”. – A. Hitler, April 11 1942
“Americans have the will to resist because you have weapons. If you don’t have a gun, freedom of speech has no power”. — Yoshimi Ishikawa, Japanese author, in the LA Times 15 Oct 1992
NICE!
There’s a good post today from BackDoor Survival (Gaye Levy) on surgical masks for the survival kit (regular vs. N95 respirators); it was actually written by Dr. Alton (Dr. Bones) in response to her question.

While I love my freedoms and my guns, it does us no good to challenge someone to look up the quotes only to have them find that the majority of the quotes are misquotes or outright fakes.
Only a silly person looks for confirmation of a quote on a blog, forum or political advocacy site. Checking the various historical sites including the online federalist papers will show you that while these quotes do not exist or are badly misquoted.
Alexander Hamilton did say in Federalist #51:
“Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped…”
That’s a quote that is easily found and clearly shows that even a big-government type like Hamilton believed the people should be armed.
In Federalist 46, James Madison said:
“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
That’s the full quote and can be properly distilled to:
Americans have the right and “advantage of being armed”—unlike the citizens of other countries whose “governments are afraid to trust the people with arms”
So please, don’t make the rest of us gun-loving people look bad by grabbing quotes from blogs without some real effort at confirming they exist. After all, Benjamin Franklin once said:
“Truth, reason and faith are ever at war on the Internet”
I agree with jw! Many times, including here, quotes are taken out of context both ways. I am 100% pro-gun, and a lifetime NRA member. But misquotes do not help things either way. They sound good for those that use them to their favor, but make things look bad when they are discovered.
Facts speak for themselves, and lets stick strictly to them. No excuse is needed for the truth………….
