What have you done this week and “Off Topic”

This past week just few by. A lot of my efforts in preparedness has been geared in the direction of planning. I have always been a big planner making numerous lists of goals and objectives – along with lists for each goal on what needs to be done to reach it.

Goals and objectives have me focused on preparedness but also health, fitness, family and finances as well. I am having a “family meeting” today for my wife and I to talk to the kids about some things. Prior to that the wife and I will go over the long term budget and make some changes. I am actually excited for the upcoming changes!

This is a good place for people to communicate “off topic” ideas, suggestions, discoveries, and information of all kinds.

So – how is this going to work? Simple – just leave a comment to this post on anything you wish. Tried out and loved a new recipe? Share it. Know of a good deal somewhere? Pass it on. Just experienced something and you just want to share? Feel free!

I will get the “Off Topic” section started:

  • I have met with several people that are the verge of panic due to Ebola. Let’s look at the facts – so far there has been only 1 – yes – only 1 case in the United States. 300 million people and we have had 1 thus far. When cases started popping up in Atlanta, Denver, New York, Los Angles and Washington – I will really start to worry.
  • If you are looking for an inexpensive pistol the Canick TP-9 is an incredible bargain. Check it out.
  • I am getting ready to start a project making my own freeze dried/dehydrated Mylar pouch meals. Hoping to save some money but still keep the 20 year shelf life.

Your turn –

All We Like Sheep: A Revolutionary Novel –  Congratulations to author Chris Cannon on a book perfect for today’s American audience. Sometimes political topics, what is happening in our nation– not of interest to the average American–one who wishes to have light-hearted, mindless entertainment rather than read anything deep, educational and meaningful, but ALL WE LIKE SHEEP draws anyone in with the exciting story and makes one THINK about what is really happening to this country!

Practical Preppers: Complete Guide to Disaster Preparedness – I have visited the authors retreat and it is impressive – this guy knows his stuff.

A complete guide to disaster preparedness from Scott Hunt, CEO of Practical Preppers and a nationally recognized preparedness expert
The world we live in is an unstable one. From natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods of biblical proportions to concerns about the economic downturn and government shutdown, the hits just keep on coming. At the same time, the power grid is incredibly fragile. Our dependency on widely distributed long distance systems for power, medicine, and food makes our society susceptible to attack, whether by foreign or domestic enemies, or the weather. No matter the concern, the solutions are the same. Scott Hunt, the owner of Practical Preppers, and an experienced engineer, homesteader, and pastor, offers readers a complete and detailed guide to sustainable living. With The Practical Preppers Complete Guide to Disaster Preparedness, anyone can learn how to:
  • Secure a water source—even in an urban area
  • Grow and preserve food
  • Set up an alternative energy supply
  • Maintain a comfortable shelter –including alternative cooking and sanitation methods during a long power outage
  • Bug out—what to include in your bug out bag and how to leave
  • Prepare for medical issues
  • Deal with security concerns

Besides all that – the author is a really nice guy.
