By Bev,

What did I do to prepare this week? In reality, I have spent most of my week learning Windows 8 – YUCK! With lots of help from Wyzyrd – THANK YOU!!!

I just had the feeling that something was going wrong with my primary computer, and yup, I woke up on Wednesday to it saying that the fan was inoperable and it just shut itself down. I had purchased a brand new computer just a couple of weeks ago but hadn’t gotten around to it yet. So this week, and probably for the next month, I will be learning a Windows 8. I was so frustrated at one point I wanted to grab it and throw it out the window!

FYI, Windows 8 is very different from all other versions of Windows up to this point. They have tried integrating the interface of a tablet/android phone with the normal operating system – result? If you are not familiar with tablets and android phones –  I’m not – you are going to have a heck of a time with this “upgrade”. And the desktop doesn’t have the bar at the top where you can just click over the startup area and go about your business as usual. But I am learning…

And we got another six inches of snow this week. I’m sure it will melt off over the next week, but how depressing after this oh so long winter. So, I am pretty much living in “mudders” over breakup – I believe some people call them garden shoes (waterproof lightweight shoes/boots). I have two pair that have liners that won’t stay put. TIP: Dab a bit of silicone caulk onto the bottoms of the inserts and walk in them for a half hour to conform it to your foot and no more frustration with buckling inserts.mammoth tooth

With all of the frustration this week, I have to share that I had a wonderful Saturday. My birthday is next week and Bob took me to the “Largest Fossil-Only Show in the World” in Iowa City, IA. Now mind you, Bob has zero interest in fossils and it is a 3.5 hour drive one way – so this was something really wonderful! I spent way too much money. I call it “sacrificing to the fossil gods” in hopes of finding my own. I bought a woolly mammoth tooth and a piece of tusk to study in hope that I will find my own someday. And a few other things. :-D

You all have heard some about my experiments over the last couple of years with Mylar. Well, I finally found what I consider the perfect, and most affordable, Mylar for preparedness situations. Plus I have been doing some miscellaneous research on Mylar on the web. So, this week is Mylar week! I just bought another 50′ roll. There are limited quantities of this stuff in stock and I have provided the link – and no I don’t get a kickback and neither does this site – it is just a good product. Over the next 5 days I will give you over 100 uses for this Mylar (Less Than $30 For All This!) in categories:

 Mylar & Outdoor Survival

Mylar to Keep You Warm & Cool

Mylar & Gardening

Mylar Miscellany

Mylar Just for Fun

Note: There may be other things that will work better than Mylar in certain circumstances, but if you have it and not something else, I feel you should know what it can be used for. If you come up with other uses, please put them in the comments and I will add them to the list that can be easily printed for your Survival Binder.

HELP!

Gardening season is coming soon and I have to admit that I am getting rather fried with so much writing. This blog is all about YOU, the older prepper. There is a lot of knowledge out there and I need a hand with articles and ideas. Sharing your knowledge is IMPORTANT. Please consider writing an article, sharing YouTube videos that you think are interesting, etc. I CAN’T DO IT ALL.

Please email us at: scprepper at outlook dot com, checked a couple times a week by Rourke.

Or email me at my personal box: bcfossillady at gmail dot com, checked a couple times a day usually, when I’m not at my Mother’s. I can’t do it all by myself…

Okay Patriots, how did you prepare this week?

A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions.

The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
