What did I do to prepare this week? I can honestly say that I have been a busy Bev. You have read about the thermal cooker I created and I am so very pleased with that. That now gives me the convenience of a one pot crock pot type meal without using electricity. A money savings now and if the grid goes down, I will have a slow cooker. And I have been refining my solar cooker, waiting for a day now with sun and above zero temps to see if the improvements are truly improvements. Another way to slow cook food without electricity.
And did you see the CONTEST we are running for thermal cooking? Rourke has agreed to a prize if we get 25 submissions of thermal cookers. Heck, a Mylar emergency blanket, a plastic bucket or tote, and a blanket and you have a way of slow cooking a meal without electric!
We had two days this week that were almost 40 degrees ABOVE zero! Wow, just shoes and no jacket needed! Yes, we are plummeting below zero again in Minnesota and with Thursday night’s dump of 14 inches of thunder snow with lightening (which means the snow is very heavy). I am just plain tired of winter – I am praying for an early spring! March is coming up this week in fact, so spring has got to come sometime!
I also got a small, unexpected windfall of money and finally got to grocery shop! It is so nice bringing in bags of groceries when you haven’t for a while!
I have shades in my kitchen that are perhaps 25 years old. This week I reworked 3 of them with Mylar showing to the inside to reflect heat and the middle one where my kitchen scraps garden is has Mylar on both sides, so it is also acting as a mini-greenhouse – and my, those scraps are growing! A post will eventually be coming up on that.
What I have seen is that all of these heat saving projects take time and even though I have the materials on hand that doesn’t mean I can just in a day create all the little things I need to create to get those heat savings. Which reinforces the need to PREPARE NOW! That way, when you need to use the stuff it is there and not a jumble of parts for you to put together.
And this week a whole entire Iowa town of 2,000 souls was evacuated due to a fertilizer plant fire – is your B.O.B. ready to go?
And please take a look at the post “HELP!” as I have been tapped to help out on an event and need YOUR help to post quality articles to this site. So I have been frantically working to get posts up for the next month. I especially need help with natural remedies and survival soup recipes, so if you have some PLEASE submit them!
Coming up this week we have SOLAR COOKERS, the WE2s on Valucraft, a nod to those of you in warm climates with an inexpensive design for a swamp cooler and more!
This site is all about YOU! The older prepper. SHARE!

Okay Patriots, how did you prepare this week?

The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
