What Did I Do To Prepare This Week?

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.

What did I do to prepare this week?  Most of it was spent recovering from last week! Oh my aching back…

rolling tool box

The first couple of days I spent sorting nuts, bolts, nails and screws nursing my back, and labeling the rolling chest where I keep such things.

bus. card holders

I found self-adhesive business card holders at Office Max, 10 for <$5 and just printed the labels. These are also great for those plastic totes that we all have. If you can’t find it, you aren’t prepared!

Then I got to feeling a bit better and opened the hose that drains the stock tank pond/water storage for winter and setup a 40 gallon aquarium that my brother gave me for my two pond fish that now measure almost 10 inches each! Bought three more today to raise up for next year. BTW, aquariums can be found cheap or free and make great storage and plant starting mini-greenhouses.

I did get in the greenhouse and tidy it a bit for spring with more to be done there. Harvested the last of the garden before the two hard frosts we had this week with snow predicted for next week. And fixed up the barn cats’ winter house by lining it with those inexpensive emergency blankets tacked on and putting in a light – old mama cat took up residence almost immediately.

And will wonders never cease! Bob restocked spaghetti and spaghetti sauce as we are down below the 3 month rotation and that makes me a bit nervous. AND came home with a sack full of meat that was on sale for the freezer!

And today I will be making my homemade noodles (Too many eggs.) and chicken soup to freeze, and repotting some of my outside herbs to see if I can nuture them through the long winter ahead.

I still have about 150′ to trench, but I need to heal up first before I go back to that digging!

Have a question for you… Do you like my adding a few pics on what I’m up to around here with little tips like the business card holders? I think it is a way to share practical everyday tips and hints.

Coming up this week, we have an article on When We Need To Prepare for Economic Hardship, Prepper Paradise: Basics to Build a Backyard Bunker, All Around the Web News, Glow Sticks for Your Preparedness Supplies, An Easy Man Pleaser Recipe, and Spiritual Preparedness for Difficult Times Part 1 of 5.

Have you thought of writing an article for SCP? Perhaps considered becoming an Editor At Large and sharing at least monthly your preparedness/homesteading adventures? Please email us at:

Okay Patriots, how did you prepare this week?

I do not go on carnival rides anymore! Kudos to them!

A smile for you…
