What did I do to prep this week?

By Bev Sandlin, Executive Editor

We went from snow on Thursday to 70 degrees on Saturday! So my prepping is focused on gardening! Gardening isn’t as easy as it used to be… So over the last couple of years I built some raised beds with some of that “forever” vinyl planking that I got used at a decent price. I set them up, more or less, for square foot gardening. Well, live and learn, some things worked and some things didn’t!

The gal before me has an asparagus bed, yeah! I renovated it, enclosed it, and planted more asparagus where her’s had died out or needed some additions last year. I mulched it heavily. But under the square foot gardening tenant, it seems such a waste to only get one crop out of a 4.5′ x10′ space!asparagus bed

Well last year I was cruising Craig’s List and in late summer ran across a gal who was giving away her strawberry plants. She had had a car accident and could no longer keep up with the garden and all the bending. I scooped up as many as I could and tucked them in all over my garden where I had space at that time! Including in the asparagus! Living mulch that produces sweet fruit?! YES! I am going to move as many of my strawberries into that asparagus bed as I can! I have another 4’x10′ bed just devoted to strawberries, but why not get two crops from one perennial bed!

garden cartLast year I also bought a garden cart. Well Worth the Money! Fairly easy to pull. I love the high sides that can be dropped. And see the little square thing on the handle? I can hook it to my lawn tractor! I have a few alternations/additions that I want to add, but if you are older and gardening, a wagon is just sooooo handy!

This week is going to be an extremely trying week for me. I humbly ask that you please keep me in your prayers. Whatever the outcome, I will accept it as the Lord’s Will for me.

And coming up this week? Triage for Mass Casualties, turning chickens into food and More!

Okay Patriots, what did YOU do this week to prep?

A smile for you…
