What did I do to prep this week?

By Bev Sandlin, Executive Editor

“Jesus said … ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die'”
(John 11:25–26, ESV).

This is Holy Week for Christians around the world. On Good Friday, we recognized that Christ died for our sins. And on Easter Monday we praise his rising from death. No, I am not going to attempt a sermon here. But I am going to approach the aspect of spiritual preparedness.

So much of our discussion here, and rightly so, is about physical preparations to prepare for any number of emergency situations. And it is good, solid, practical thinking. We prepare physically by collecting supplies and trying to stay in shape to be able to do for ourselves and others. And we prepare mentally by considering various situations and potential appropriate reactions to them.

But it is Easter Sunday, a time to contemplate the death and rising of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And if we choose too, a time to contemplate our own preparedness for the death of our physical bodies and rising into the house of our Lord. Are you prepared?

Life is a precious gift. We grow and learn and so much happens to every one of us. How we choose to react to those experiences is up to us. And with maturity, prayer and humility we grow in the awareness that we are not just physical beings, but spiritual beings also. If we choose to, we can shake off the physical and mental challenges we face everyday and realize that in the end, it is our spiritual preparedness that is our greatest, and everlasting, resource.

For me, this week has been a challenge. I have spent many hours in humbled prayer. But this challenge has also led me to a yet deeper appreciation for my Lord, and every one of You, who teach me every day that I am a child of God; learning and growing daily to become a better person and a better Christian. Praise HIM in all things!
