Thoughts from an Old Scout

Thoughts from an Old Scout

by Johnsobo 100, Editor at Large

I realize that this has nothing to do with prepping, and some reading this may not agree with my thoughts, however I feel compelled to speak out. I could not believe what I was hearing when the newscaster spoke about the Boy Scouts of America considering lifting a ban on incorporating homosexuals in to the ranks of the BSA , as members and leaders. I think it speaks volumes as to the moral fabric of our country, and to the depths of moral decay which it has plunged.

I was a boy scout as a pre-teen, and as a teenager, and I am very proud of that fact. I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout; also, I had the opportunity to attend a National Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa, and as an Explorer Scout, went on many extended long term camping trips, including a month-long canoe trip in Canada and a similar extended hike and camping in the Gila Bend National Park in New Mexico. Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying, I am not bragging about my experiences I had in Scouting, but I am trying to demonstrate that Scouting was a big part of my life as a young man, and I feel that it helped shaped much of who and what I am today.

We were taught to respect God, Country, and our family. I cannot help but think that Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, would turn over in his grave over this “Politically Correct” consideration that the current leadership in the Boy Scouts of America is considering.

This is just one more piece of our moral fabric in our country that is being ripped apart. It ranks right up there with legalizing abortion, taking God out of our public education system, forcing legislation on the public that they clearly have said they do not want, as well as trying to take our constitutional rights away from us.

Where has this decay come from? I wish I had all the answers, but unfortunately I do not. One thing I do see is that this decay has crept up on us year after year, and suddenly, it festers into a full blown disease. A disease I believe will eventually rob us of all the will to fight back. I for one, do not like this so called “new normal”, and I intend to send this article to the Boy Scouts of America.

As I said at the beginning, I don’t know what your position is on this issue, but if you feel like me, I urge you to voice your protest at the link I have provided. We are under attack from all sides.
