When I woke up this morning and looked out the window, it was raining and gloomy outside, the weather report said it may rain for several days, Ugh, I thought, there goes that project I wanted to do outside today.
As I sat in my chair drinking my morning coffee and thinking about this, my
conscience was a little pinged by my attitude. The more I thought about
how I look at life and the things around me, a verse in Psalms kept entering
my thoughts. That verse was Psalm 118:24:“This is the day which the
Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
This thought just would not go away. I don’t know about you, but when
things like this happens to me, I feel as though God is trying to tell me
As much as we may hate to admit it, many times things just don’t go the way we planned, or people don’t act the way we think they should. There are times that our burdens weigh us down, or we become overwhelmed with sorrow or guilt. In other words, it is hard to be excited or happy about what the day brings.
I think what God was saying through the psalmists is, If we will give our burdens to Him each day, He will give and show us reasons to rejoice and serve Him, regardless of what the day may bring.
As someone once told me, it is good to have a “Life Verse”. We even have a “Life Verse”for SCP: Proverbs 27:12 – “A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” I for one, think this verse serves our community here at SCP very well.
There are many great verses in God’s word that you could adopt as a “Life Verses”. I think Psalm 118: 24 seems to be a good fit for me, and so this will be mine!
Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
What is yours?
