By Bev Sandlin,

What did I do to become more self-reliant this week? Bringing in more potatoes and cabbage to the root cellar, and putting by more food. Went to the gun range this week for practice – that is something I need to do more often! Had a horse out, so I spent an afternoon fixing that portion of the fence with pieces of cattle panel to make it a much better barrier, but with dead branches coming down on it periodically I’m just not sure what will make it better except to cut some very large trees which I can’t do myself. I drilled some more holes into my 5 gallon composter and am continuing to experiment with that and did a lot of research on vermiculture (using worms to eat organic garbage and create castings for the garden) which I hope to share with you soon. And obsessing about my new granddaughter.

That frugality tip from Harold is sure worth checking out guys and gals! I’ve been roaming around the internet and typing in “refurbished” on various sites and I can’t believe some of the deals! Fifty inch TV on Sears for $319. Almost anything refurbished on Best Buy, and even Harley Davidson has refurbished motorcycles! Some deals are better than others, but hey, another avenue to check out if you are looking for a good deal!

A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions.

The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
