Homestead Tip: Chicken Feeder Topper
Ah yes, it is Minnesota in the winter! Here is a neat little tip for outside chicken feeders! The green top is a $3 round plastic sled that we call a “flying saucer” inverted onto an old five gallon plastic pail that no longer holds water. I screwed the flying saucer onto the pail and then placed the pail over the top of the open feeder!
It keeps most of the rain and snow out of the feeder and has stayed on during 50 mph gusts of wind! A simple, inexpensive solution that saves a lot on chicken feed!
