As I was drinking my coffee this morning I was wondering why we are so captivated by a sunrise or sunset over the ocean, or a panoramic view from a mountain top.
It seems as though time stands still, and our minds are taken captive by beautiful thoughts. To put it another way, we are at peace, and the storms of this world fades away. We savor the moment and do not want it to end.
Even though I don’t get enough of these moments, I have come to realize they are there if we only take the time to see them. God gives us the same advice He gave Job, “…stop and consider God’s wonders.” The Psalmist gives us the same advice when he wrote: “Be still and know that I am God.”
I think that this is the key to why we are so captivated by scenic views. We can take the focus off of ourselves and focus on the One who created it all, and with this comes the peace we so long for. O the wonder of it all.
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. “ Psalm 118:24
