What follows is just one part of an ongoing survival fiction series written by John Rourke and has been published on Amazon. It is being made available here for free. A new entry is published every day. The story is written in a daily journal format.
August 25th Military heading home…..
Bill came over and brought the shortwave radio. Big news from overseas. All US military forces are heading back to the United States. Tremendous damage has been inflicted on Iran, North Korea, and China. The countries have been blasted almost into one big parking lot and there is little else to do. US military supplies are running low and with no manufacturing going on of anything, anywhere……they are heading home.
All of Europe and the Middle East are struggling. Economies have totally collapsed with no exporting, no importing. Massive riots and violence have led to martial law throughout. Religious wars have broken out as many groups looked at this as an opportunity – especially in the Middle East. They know the United States is distracted.
The world is in chaos – and our troops are coming home. They deserve it.
What will they find? What will they do? Will they arrive to their homes and find their families waiting for them or will they find the home empty, desolate, and lonely?
Sometimes I do not realize how lucky I am. Laying beside me M sleeps as I write in this journal. We still have food, a shelter over our heads, solar power, clean water, seeds, Aaron and Caleb, and each other. So much more than most and much more than many of those brave serviceman that have served this country.
I guess I am feeling philosophical. Each day that goes by is one day closer to…..what? What should I expect? What can I expect? What can we hope for? Will we ever go back to “normal”? I doubt it. Can electricity ever be restored? Can hospitals reopen? Will the government run a 1 trillion dollar deficit again? Who knows?
What I know for sure is we need to exist. We need to survive. We need to love and care for each other – all of us. And we need to fight evil should it make the mistake of crossing paths with us. We – as a people – need to be determined to carry on. We need to praise God for what we have and pray that he will show us the way.
That’s enough for tonight.
